To University of the Cumberlands, Your university is the perfect example of what many of us in this country and around the world believe to be true. Just because someone has the right to do something, doesn’t always make it right. Although, Jason Johnson is much better off finishing his education in a well-balanced, loving environment elsewhere, what happened to him is not acceptable and will not go without continued public attention. Your organization may be proud of upholding its version of morality, but what you have done to this young man and his family is a violation of his freedom as a human being. No student handbook, nor Supreme Court can ever legislate against someone’s freedom as a human being to be themselves. However, thanks to University of the Cumberlands and the absurd action against Jason Johnson, he will not be led into additional reparative or exgay therapy, but rather into a journey to self-acceptance. A journey that will lead him to discover real definitions of love and family. HeartStrong will always be there to provide support to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered students who are persecuted at religious schools. Not just around the world, but right there in Kentucky, too.
