HeartStrong Team Marks 313,000 Miles for GLBT Students

Seattle, WA  The most extensive grassroots outreach effort in the history of the GLBT movement has reached another pinnacle. On April 17, 2005, the HeartStrong Outreach Team marked the 313,000th mile driven in outreach and educational efforts. 
                                                                                                                "There have been many people who have scoffed at what we are doing. They think that our commitment will waiver over time," says Marc Adams, founder and executive director of HeartStrong. "We are anything but faltering. It's true that HeartStrong has very little money in the bank but we have faith that people will come forward and help us continue our work."

Since January, 1998, the HeartStrong Outreach Team has traversed the United States and parts of Canada by car raising public awareness to the plight of GLBT students at religious schools and reaching out to those who need their support.

"The message of HeartStrong is effective because we speak the language," Adams reveals. "We know what it is like to be gay and live and study in environments that are unbelievably oppressive and abusive. What also makes our work truly effective is that we work quietly, consistently and confidently."
 

Since January, 1998, HeartStrong, Inc., through the efforts of the HeartStrong Outreach Team, has assisted over 962 students directly and affected hundreds more via their more than 14 outreach programs including the Internet, in public meetings and other programs. Thousands have attended their lectures and workshops. HeartStrong, Inc., is a nonsectarian non profit organization and outreach efforts extend to current and former students of every religious educational institution.
