To Spring Arbor University, Your school is the perfect example of HeartStrong's motto. "Having the right to do something doesn't always make it right to do." Dr. Nemecek might well be better of giving her time and talents to a University which understand the meaning of respect. Your persecutionof her and calculated attempts to make her disappear have backfired. Rather than make the situation disappear you have only drawn more attention to an issue that involves more than just Dr. Nemecek. If you think for a moment that there aren't others on your campus and in your sect of Christianity dealing with the exact same situation, you are mistaken. HeartStrong has existed for more than ten years as a direct result of the persecution and disrespect shown to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered students and others at religious educational institutions such as Spring Arbor University The good thing is that those who have been unable to move forward in their personal journey as Dr. Nemecek has, now have a public and substantial role model. While your organization may be proud of upholding its version of morality, the actions and now the reactions of your school to this incident provide a pathway for people to see the attempts of a religious organization, in your case, from a sect of Christianity, to discriminate. HeartStrong will always be there to provide support to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered students and others who are persecuted at religious schools.
